WORKSHOP

‘Landscape Oil Painting’
with MELISSA WISHART

£45 per person

‘Landscapes in oil with an emphasis on techniques

for beginners and improvers’

Join local artist Melissa Wishart for a workshop on oil painting techniques suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. The focus will be on landscape and abstract styles.

Melissa Wishart is a cross-disciplinary artist with many years of experience in oil painting. She draws inspiration from light, water, and the natural world. Through her work with seas, skies, and landscapes, she explores a range of emotions, energies, and atmospheres.

Oil paint offers rich, translucent colours and allows artists to layer and manipulate the paint to keep it fluid on the canvas. In this workshop, Melissa will teach techniques for both beginners and experienced painters, using either traditional or water-based oil paints.

Materials

We will use a variety of brushes, rags, and a silicon wedge. The only solvents to be used are ‘Zest It’ or ‘Sansodor.’ The main colours needed are titanium white, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, yellow ochre, cadmium red deep, burnt sienna, burnt umber, ultramarine blue, and cerulean blue. Additionally, viridian and alizarin can be useful but are optional.

Please bring the following:

  • A large palette

  • Two or three A3-sized primed canvas boards, oil painting paper, or primed wood

  • Plenty of rags

  • An easel (if your easel has spikes on the ends of its legs, please use corks or similar materials to protect the wooden floor in the hall)

  • A few sketches or reference photos of landscapes

Schedule

We aim to begin the workshop between 10:00 and 10:15 AM. Hot drinks and biscuits will be available throughout the day. We will break for lunch at 12:30 PM, so please bring a packed lunch. After packing up in the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to share and view the selection of work we have created throughout the day.

We expect to finish by 3:45-4:00 pm.

Places are limited, and early booking is advised. Members get priority access to booking until two weeks before the event. After this, any available places will be open for booking, at an increased fee, by non-members.
