WORKSHOP
With MAUREEN BOND
£45 per person
Transforming existing works into mixed media with a seasonal theme.
Anyone who has ever painted in watercolour or gouache likely has a pile of artwork which never made it into a frame but isn’t bad enough to consign to the bin. There comes a point where tinkering with further watercolour techniques won’t improve the situation, and this is where mixed media comes in. It’s an opportunity to play - to experiment. And there’s nothing to lose.
We are going to be using soft pastels, oil pastels, watercolour pencils, acrylic pens, graphite - anything you have to hand. Maureen will guide you through the process, the options, the techniques.
Bring a selection of old watercolour paintings that you wish to work with. Any subject will do, but as we move into shorter days you may wish to work with the colours and themes of autumn and winter. This might be a landscape inspired by winter colours, or perhaps an opportunity to work with brighter colours to create your own Christmas card.
Materials
Old watercolour paintings
A simple set of watercolour or gouache paints
Brushes and water pots
A painting board and masking tape
Palette knife or old credit card
Kitchen roll or old rags
Scissors and glue
A selection of either/or mediums to work with:
Soft pastels
Oil pastels
Watercolour pencils or Inktense sticks
Acrylic pens such as Posca
White acrylic paint
Pencils, graphite sticks, charcoal
Please note that it isn’t necessary to bring a whole range of mixed media materials. Ideally, a couple of options would be good. Perhaps soft pastels and watercolour pencils, for example. Just bring whatever you have to hand.
Schedule
We aim to begin the workshop at 10:00 and set up at 09:45 am. Hot drinks and biscuits will be available throughout the day. We will break for lunch at 12:30 pm, so please bring a packed lunch. After packing up in the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to share and view the selection of work we have created throughout the day.
We expect to finish by 3:30 pm.
