WORKSHOP
With ANNA BAKER
£45 per person
Creating beautiful painted concertina personal journals or gift books.
This exciting workshop offers an exploration of place-based journaling as a form of creative assertion, emotional connection, and ecological witness. Inspired by The Land Love Journal project, participants will create their own pocket-sized, concertina-fold books that blend mark-making and reflection.
Beginning with a short introduction to the journal as a site of personal and collective storytelling, we’ll explore how mark-making, observation, and quiet noticing can deepen our relationship with the landscapes we inhabit.
Participants will be guided through a simple, mindful technique of folding and assembling their own journals. The pages will become spaces to test visual ideas and explore mark-making.
Throughout, we’ll consider how acts of attentive noticing can serve as tools for stewardship and connection and empowerment, positioning the artist not just as maker, but as collaborator and custodian. The workshop will close with an informal sharing and reflection, with an invitation to continue the practice beyond the session.
About Anna
Working with paper and cloth, Anna explores the spirit of the domestic and its connection to the natural world.
Her practice centres on attentive activism - storytelling, mark-making, and walking as quiet but purposeful acts.
She investigates the relationship between internal and external landscapes, reflecting on how place shapes, and is shaped by, personal experience.
Her journals act as aesthetic artefacts, documents of place, and sites of shared authorship, emphasising close observation and hand-made processes as tools for connection and ecological care.
Based in rural Somerset, Anna holds degrees from Cardiff, Camberwell, and a PGCE from Goldsmiths in Art & Design.
